We are proud to welcome Ian Schneller as an Executive Advisor at acceligence. Ian brings more than 34 years of experience leading cybersecurity, technology, and resilience initiatives, with deep expertise in healthcare and board-level governance. His career has been shaped in environments where trust, regulatory accountability, and operational continuity are mission-critical.
Most recently, Ian served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the largest privately held health insurer in the United States, serving more than 23 million members. In one of the most heavily regulated and frequently targeted sectors, Ian led a multi-year transformation that elevated cybersecurity to world-class maturity, achieving zero material breaches and zero regulatory findings. Beyond defense, he embedded security as a business enabler – strengthening regulator confidence, supporting major acquisitions, and enabling consistent multi-billion-dollar annual growth.
In parallel with his executive role, Ian has served in multiple board and advisory capacities across the healthcare ecosystem. He was a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) Cybersecurity Subcommittee, helping align cyber strategy and governance across a system that supports healthcare for one in three Americans. He has also served as a board member for Medecision and as a healthcare advisory board member for Proofpoint, where he advises on risk, growth, and technology strategy. Across these roles, Ian is recognized for his ability to bridge board oversight, executive accountability, and operational execution.
Prior to his healthcare leadership, Ian held senior executive roles at RealPage, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase, working at the intersection of enterprise technology, systemic risk, and public-private collaboration. He was a founding member of the Financial Systemic Analysis and Resilience Center (FSARC), a landmark initiative created to protect the U.S. financial system from catastrophic cyber threats. These experiences further strengthened his ability to advise boards and executive teams operating in highly regulated, high-consequence environments.
Earlier in his career, Ian spent nearly 24 years as a senior officer in the U.S. Air Force, serving in leadership roles across the Pentagon, U.S. Cyber Command, and the National Security Agency. He advised the White House and U.S. Congress on national security priorities, governed multi-billion-dollar budgets, and led global organizations responsible for some of the nation’s most sensitive missions. His service was marked by repeated recognition for exceptional leadership and operational excellence.
“Ian brings a rare combination of healthcare depth, board-level perspective, and calm judgment under pressure,” said Justin Greis, Chief Executive Officer of acceligence. “He understands what it means to operate in regulated environments where trust and resilience are non-negotiable, and he knows how to help boards and executives make confident decisions when risk, growth, and accountability collide.”
What distinguishes Ian is not only his cybersecurity expertise, but his credibility in the boardroom. He is the first CISO in the history of the ORBIE Awards to receive the national honor previously reserved for CIOs and holds multiple governance credentials, including Wharton’s Corporate Governance program and the Qualified Technical Executive (QTE) designation. These experiences allow him to serve as a trusted advisor to boards navigating cyber risk, AI governance, and enterprise resilience.
“As healthcare and other regulated industries face accelerating cyber threats and increasing scrutiny, leaders need advisors who understand both the operational realities and the board’s fiduciary responsibilities,” said Ian Schneller. “acceligence brings a thoughtful, pragmatic approach to helping leaders navigate those challenges, and I’m excited to contribute my experience in support of that mission.”
As an Executive Advisor, Ian will work closely with acceligence clients and leadership teams on healthcare cybersecurity, technology, enterprise risk management, AI, and challenges at the intersection of strategy and risk. His perspective strengthens acceligence’s ability to help organizations protect trust while enabling sustainable growth.
